Frequently Asked Questions
Who is appropriate for physiotherapy?
People of all ages can benefit from physiotherapy. Whether you need to reduce pain, restore movement or return to sports and hobbies, an individual treatment program will be designed to help you achieve your goals.
What conditions can be treated?
A wide and varied range of conditions that involve pain, weakness and loss of movement will respond well to physiotherapy. If you are unsure whether you may benefit call us for a free phone consultation or look at the ‘conditions we treat’ page on the website.
What can I expect when I receive treatment?
The initial session will involve a thorough assessment to establish a diagnosis and identify the cause of your symptoms. Your physiotherapist will explain these findings to you and in conjunction with yourself will devise a treatment plan to allow you to achieve your goals. The effects of any treatment will be continually monitored and adjusted accordingly dependent on your feedback.
Do physiotherapists treat back and neck pain?
Your physiotherapist is highly experienced in treating a wide range of spinal problems, including disc, facet joint, nerve or muscle and ligament problems. Back and neck problems actually constitute the largest part of our caseload.
How many sessions will I need?
Following your initial assessment your physiotherapist will discuss this with you. It is important to remember that everybody is different, and therefore respond differently to particular interventions. If you feel that you are not progressing as you would expect then your treatment can be re-evaluated or referred to an appropriate consultant.
Do physiotherapists manipulate?
Yes, any physiotherapist with the relevant post graduate training can manipulate. If manipulation is adjudged to be appropriate for your condition then your physiotherapist will discuss this with you prior to performing the procedure.
How do I know my physiotherapist is fully qualified?
All chartered physiotherapists have undergone an initial three year training period to enable them to practice. Following qualification as a chartered physiotherapist, practitioners undertake regular courses to maintain the conditions of their registration with the HPC and CSP. To check the registration of any of our physiotherapists click on the link on the website at the bottom of each page and type in the name of the physiotherapist.
How long is the wait for an appointment?
All patients can usually be seen within 24 – 48 hours, and occasionally same day appointments are available.
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
No, anyone can refer themselves for treatment. If you have private medical insurance and wish to use this to pay for the treatment, you may need to go through your GP. You will need to clarify this with your insurance provider.
How long is the appointment?
Each appointment is 30 minutes.
What should I wear?
Your physiotherapist will need to examine your symptomatic area. If you have a lower limb problem bring a pair of shorts, for a back or shoulder problem you may need to remove your top. We have both male and female physiotherapists so please feel free to ask for whichever you would be more comfortable with.
Should I bring any X-rays or medical notes with me?
Any additional information you have regarding your symptoms will be of benefit to your physiotherapist.
How do I pay?
You can pay following each session using card, cheque or cash, or we can invoice you monthly. If you have medical insurance, or have been referred by a solicitor or case manager we will collect payment directly from them.
I have private medical insurance, am I covered with you?
Yes, we accept all medical insurances. It is important to contact your insurers prior to treatment to determine if you firstly need to see your GP, whether there is an excess on your policy and also if there is a limit to the amount you can claim for physiotherapy.
